The Vantage Scout Nova is the camera we recommend to most people, most of the time. It fires in 0.3 seconds, records in 4K, sees in complete darkness without emitting a single visible photon, and runs for up to a year on one set of AAs.

The casing is IP67 — properly sealed, not splash-resistant — and wears a camouflage pattern we had made specifically for British and European woodland rather than the orange-brown American oak scheme most trail cameras ship in.

Invisible at night — genuinely

There's a meaningful difference between low-glow and no-glow. Low-glow cameras emit a faint red shimmer when they fire. No-glow cameras emit nothing you can see at all. The Scout Nova's 48-LED array is fully no-glow, throwing usable infrared out to 80ft while remaining completely dark to the naked eye.

That matters twice over: shy species like fox, badger and deer don't react to it, and a camera nobody notices is a camera that doesn't walk off.

Speed where it counts

A 0.3-second still trigger and 0.8-second video trigger put the Scout Nova in the fast tier. Recovery is 1.0 second, so a group of animals passing through gets captured properly instead of one frame of the first one. Up to nine images per trigger if you want a burst.

Daytime clips run to 60 seconds; night clips are capped at 20 seconds to protect battery life, and the camera can re-arm and shoot again if there's still activity.

A year in the field on one set of cells

Six AA batteries, and in photo mode that's up to twelve months. Video mode is around three months. Lithium AAs give the best cold-weather performance; if you'd rather go rechargeable, use 2500mAh or higher — anything less won't hold up. You can add either to your order above.

Camouflage designed for here

The casing pattern was drawn for British and European habitat — greys, mosses and muted browns rather than the high-contrast American hardwood pattern. Combined with the no-glow LEDs and the impact-resistant shell, it disappears against a hedgerow or a mossy trunk.

Buy the Scout Nova if you want the best all-round trail camera value we sell, you need covert no-glow night vision, or you're deploying somewhere with foot traffic. It's the workhorse — hedgerows, badger setts, garden gates, farm tracks.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between no-glow and low-glow?
Low-glow LEDs give off a faint red shimmer when the camera fires at night — visible if you're looking at it. No-glow LEDs, like the Scout Nova's, emit nothing in the visible spectrum at all. No-glow is the right choice for shy species and for anywhere the camera might be spotted and taken.

Can I connect it to my phone?
No. The Scout Nova is a pure SD-card camera with no wireless of any kind — which is exactly why its battery life is measured in months rather than weeks. You review footage on the built-in colour screen or by pulling the card. If you want phone connectivity, look at the Solaris or the WildView 3.

Which batteries should I use?
Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAs give the longest life and cope best with cold, and are what we run in our own cameras. Alkalines are fine for shorter deployments. If you go rechargeable, use Eneloop Pro or equivalent at 2500mAh or above — standard 2000mAh cells will disappoint you. All three are available as options above.

Can I run it from a solar panel or mains?
No — this model has no external power jack, by design. If you need permanently powered or solar operation, the Vantage Solaris is the camera you want.

Is it really waterproof?
IP67 means fully dust-tight and able to survive temporary immersion. In practice that's well beyond anything British weather will do to it. Just make sure the latch is properly closed and the seal is clean.
