Watch a brood raised, from the inside

There is nothing else in garden wildlife quite like it: the first strand of moss carried in, the clutch appearing one egg at a time, the racket of a nestful of chicks, and one morning in June, an empty box.

The Vantage NestView is a complete kit — nest box, camera, solar panel and aerial — so there's nothing else to work out and nothing else to buy.

  • Everything in one box — nest box, WiFi camera, solar panel, external aerial and all fixings
  • UK-made FSC Douglas Fir heartwood box with a stated outdoor life of up to 20 years
  • Up to 25m from your router thanks to the included external aerial
  • Invisible infrared — you see the nest at night, the birds see nothing
  • Solar powered, so it runs right through the season unattended
  • No subscription — recordings save locally

A proper nest box, not a camera housing

The box is made in the UK from FSC-certified Douglas Fir heartwood — a dense, naturally durable timber that will stand outdoors for up to two decades. The 32mm entrance hole is the standard size for blue tit, great tit, house sparrow and nuthatch.

Two discreet side windows in Perspex let natural daylight into the box, which is what makes daytime footage look like footage rather than a green-grey infrared smear.

Reaches the bottom of the garden

The single biggest problem with nest box cameras is that the best place for a nest box is rarely near your router. The NestView ships with an external aerial that pushes reliable range out to around 25m — enough to get the box onto the far fence, the shed gable or the tree at the back.

Light discipline matters

Nesting birds are sensitive to disturbance, so the camera uses fully invisible infrared illumination. You see clear black-and-white footage at night; the adults sitting eighteen inches away see nothing at all. The camera face is matte to kill reflections inside the box.

Set it up in spring, forget it until summer

The solar panel keeps the internal battery charged, so once the box is up and the camera is paired there's no reason to open it again mid-season — which is exactly as it should be. Watch live or catch the recordings, with motion alerts if you want them. And when an adult brings something in that you can't identify, the app's 'ID Bird' button will tell you.

Who this is for

Buy the NestView if you want the full nesting season on camera without piecing a kit together yourself. It's also the wildlife present that people remember — schools, grandparents and anyone with a garden and some patience.

Pair it with the BirdView Pro and run both from the same app: the feeder where the adults eat, the box where the chicks are.

Frequently asked questions

When should I put the box up?
As early as you can — ideally autumn or winter. Birds prospect for nest sites well before they build, and a box that has been in place for a few months is far more likely to be used than one put up in March. Face it between north and east, out of direct afternoon sun and driving rain, and tilt it very slightly forward.

Will the camera disturb the birds?
No. The infrared illumination is completely invisible to the birds, and the camera is silent and static. The genuine disturbance risk is people — once a pair has moved in, leave the box alone entirely, which is precisely what the camera lets you do.

What if nothing nests in it the first year?
It happens, and it's normal — sometimes a box takes a season or two to be adopted. Leave it up, resist the urge to move it around, and clean it out in autumn. Meanwhile you'll still get roosting birds sheltering in it over winter, which is worth watching in itself.

Is there a subscription?
No. Recordings save locally to the device and stream direct to your phone. There is no monthly fee.

Which birds will use a 32mm hole?
32mm is the general-purpose size: blue tit, great tit, coal tit, house sparrow, tree sparrow and nuthatch. A 25mm hole would restrict it to the smaller tits; 32mm keeps your options open.
