Your garden birds, close up, on your phone
The Vantage BirdView Pro is a bird feeder with a camera built into it, positioned inches from the perch. The result is the kind of view you'd normally need a hide and a long lens for — every feather, every squabble, every visit.
It runs on solar, connects to your home WiFi, and pushes an alert to your phone whenever something lands. And when a bird turns up that you don't recognise, one tap tells you what it is.
- AI bird identification — tap 'ID Bird' and the app names the species
- Solar powered — a panel in the roof keeps the internal battery charged year-round
- 1080p video with sound at 25fps, plus infrared night vision
- 32GB card pre-installed, zero subscription — no monthly fee, no cloud lock-in
- Squirrel-ready — metal perch fitted as standard, plus a wider plastic perch in the box
- 2.5-litre self-refilling seed tray with drainage holes
It tells you what you're looking at
Everyone hits the same wall eventually: a small brown bird lands, and you have no idea. Tap the 'ID Bird' button and, given a clear view, the app identifies the species for you. It knows the full cast of UK garden visitors — blackbirds and wrens, blue tits and nuthatches, the lot.
It's the feature that turns a camera into an education, and it's the reason this is the product we sell most of as a gift.
Designed like a bird feeder, not a gadget
Plenty of camera feeders look like a security device bolted to a tube. This one was designed to belong in a garden. The seed hopper holds 2.5 litres and gently refills the tray as the birds feed, so a fill lasts. Drainage holes in the tray stop seed going to mush after rain.
The front face is matte rather than gloss — a small detail that matters, because a glossy panel reflects, and in spring a territorial robin will attack its own reflection rather than eat.
Squirrels: handled
In most of Britain, feeding the birds means feeding at least one squirrel. The BirdView Pro ships with a metal perch fitted that will take a chunkier visitor without bending, and the refill lid can be screwed shut so it can't be levered off. If squirrels aren't your problem, swap in the wider plastic perch included in the box — it gives the birds more room to queue.
Alerts when you want them, quiet when you don't
Turn motion alerts on and your phone buzzes each time something lands. Turn them off and just drop into the live view whenever you fancy it. Either way, every visit is recorded to the card so you can catch up later — including anything that turns up after dark, lit by the infrared LEDs.
Who this is for
Buy the BirdView Pro if you feed the birds already and want to actually see them, or you're buying a present for someone who does. It's the most-gifted product we sell.
Add the Vantage NestView if you want to watch a brood being raised from inside the box — the two run side by side in the same app.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Everything records to the 32GB card that's already in the camera, and streams direct to your phone. There is no subscription of any kind — which over a couple of years is a meaningful saving against the subscription-based feeder cameras.
Does it need to be in sunlight?
It helps, but it doesn't need direct sun all day. The roof panel trickle-charges the internal battery, and a reasonably open position keeps it topped up year-round. Through a very dark winter you can lift the camera out and charge it over USB-C in ten minutes indoors.
How accurate is the bird identification?
Very good on a clear, well-lit view of a common UK garden species. If the bird is half-hidden behind the feeder or shot from an odd angle, it can hedge. Treat it as an excellent assistant rather than an infallible authority.
Will squirrels wreck it?
The metal perch is fitted specifically for them and the refill lid screws shut. Determined squirrels are determined squirrels, but this feeder is built with them in mind rather than in denial about them.
How far from my router can it go?
Around 7-10m is typical through a wall or two. A modern router or a mesh point in a back room will extend that considerably. If your feeder is at the bottom of a long garden, the NestView kit's external aerial reaches up to 25m.
