Your ground, on your phone, without the drive out
The Vantage Ranger is the camera you put somewhere awkward and then stop thinking about. It runs on solar, it sends what it sees to your phone over 4G, and it arrives with the SIM already in it and a 128GB card already fitted.
No WiFi to reach it. No monthly contract. Strap it to a tree, open the app, and it's working.
- Photos and video to your phone over 4G — no WiFi, no site visit
- Prepaid SIM included and ready to go — top it up when you choose, no direct debit, no monthly plan forced on you
- 128GB microSD card in the box — nothing else to buy
- 7800mAh battery with a 4W solar panel built in
- 940nm invisible infrared — nothing to see at night, not even a faint red glow
- 0.2-second PIR trigger and an IP66 case rated from -25°C to +60°C
No contract, and we mean it
Most cellular cameras hand you a cheap camera and a subscription that outlives it. The Ranger ships with a prepaid SIM — you top it up when you want to, in the amount you want. No direct debit, no auto-renewal, no plan you forget to cancel.
The SIM supports 4G LTE bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8 and B20, which covers the European networks.
Solar, so it stays where you put it
A 4W panel sits on the roof and keeps the 7800mAh internal battery topped up. In a spot with reasonable daylight that means you set it once and leave it — which is the entire point of a camera you've put somewhere inconvenient.
Mount it around 1 to 1.5m off the ground with the panel facing south for the best result.
Invisible at night
The infrared runs at 940nm — the covert end of the spectrum. A 850nm camera gives off a faint red shimmer when it fires; a 940nm camera gives off nothing you can see. Deer don't notice it, and neither does anyone walking past.
Fast enough to matter
The PIR sensor triggers in 0.2 seconds across a detection field of roughly 90 to 95°, out to about 19 metres. Stills and video record at 2K with sound.
Who this camera is for
Buy the Ranger if the spot is a drive away, or you want to know what's happening while it's happening rather than a fortnight later.
Buy the Vantage Tracker instead if you visit the site regularly anyway — you'll get higher-resolution stills and no data costs at all.

Frequently asked questions
Is there really no subscription?
No monthly contract and no direct debit. The SIM is prepaid — you top it up when you want, in the amount you want. You do need data credit on it for the camera to send anything, which is true of every cellular camera; the difference is that nobody is billing you automatically.
Will it work where I want to put it?
It needs 4G coverage at the camera's location. Check the signal on your phone standing at the spot before you commit — if your phone has no bars there, no cellular camera will work, this one included.
What does 940nm actually mean?
It's the wavelength of the infrared LEDs. At 940nm the light is outside what the human eye can see, so the camera stays completely dark when it fires at night. Cheaper cameras use 850nm, which produces a faint red glow.
Do I need to buy a memory card?
No. A 128GB microSD card is already in the box and fitted.
How long does the battery last?
With the 4W panel in a reasonably open, south-facing position, it should keep itself topped up indefinitely. Under heavy tree cover in midwinter you may need to bring it in for a charge.
